Rethinking Initial Languages Teaching Education Programs in Colombia: A Review of the Concept of Teacher Training

Abstract
This article aims at reviewing the concept of teaching training from a historical perspective. It also accounts for the way this concept has been present in initial languages teaching education programs in Colombia. The results of this review indicate that teacher training is still seen form a technical and instrumental perspective. In this sense, teacher training has not sufficiently envisioned a humanistic perspective of teaching. It is concluded that there is a need to rethink the way teaching training is conceived in initial language teaching education programs.
